Service Trips

Service TripsThe CSC sponsors several service trips each year. Each service trip is led by a CSC Intern and a student leader and all of the planning is done by the 10 to 14 people going on the trips. In most years, during winter break, a group of students goes to an international site. The length of these trips has varied greatly, based on the decision of the group, from ten days to three weeks. . In addition to the international service trip, two or three domestic service trips are planned each year for Spring Break and the first weeks of Summer Break.

While the actual trips will last between a week and three weeks, the experience truly begins with the first team meeting and continues after the trip s return - sharing the experience with others and maintaining relationships with trip members. Planning for the international service trip begins almost immediately, in early to mid September. Planning for spring break trips begins at the end of first semester or beginning of the second, depending on when spring break falls in the academic calendar. Summer break trips begin planning during the middle of second semester.

Each trip is more than just a few hours of service each day. Service trip are an integrated experience of faith, service, and community. Faith is integrated through daily reflection time and time at prayer and at Mass. Both physical and social service will occur through scheduled service opportunities and informal times as well. Building community will be a necessary part of spending significant time with such a small group of people. Each person is asked to handle some leadership duties, prepare at least one nightly reflection, and meet with a prayer partner every evening.
